Public Information Statement
The Borough recognizes that people may be concerned about the display of their personal and property information on the Internet. Individuals with such concerns are asked to consider the following:
- Most information maintained by the Matanuska-Susitna Borough is a matter of public record per State of Alaska statutes and Borough codes. For example, any individual can walk into the Borough Assessments Office and request parcel information. Since this information is a public record, we can provide it to the extent allowed under applicable Borough, State, and Federal laws. See Chapter 1.50 Matanuska-Susitna Borough Code.
- Limiting access to this information will not increase your privacy as much of it is available through other agencies, businesses, and elsewhere on the Internet.
- Public review of Borough records makes the Borough more accountable to its citizens. Publishing parcel information on the Internet can result in the correction of errors, thereby increasing the accuracy of the data.
- Making data available in this manner helps show citizens how the Borough is developing.
